“I've not felt a performance with this much intensity since I saw Neil Young solo years ago. Nor have I heard songwriting with this much subtlety of craftsmanship since Leonard Cohen.... I was completely floored.”
- Henri Simmons, The Filter
Austin, TX-based singer/songwriter, Danny Schmidt has been building an enthusiastic (nearly cult-like) following while simultaneously inspiring admiration among fellow artists and critical acclaim from industry professionals. He is the real deal … An authentic, timeless troubadour in the tradition of Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Dave Carter … who delivers his craft with a quiet power, level of complexity, and underlying humanity that is truly rare in this age of sound bite marketeering.
His intense live performances leave listeners with a sense that each of his songs is necessary, plain and simple. His guitar work is effortless and sparkling, his arrangements are fresh and unpredictable, his voice ageless. Stylistically and musically, Danny’s writing spans an impressively diverse reach, from deeply-rooted Appalachian mountain gospel to haunted English balladry, from syncopated Piedmont country blues to vagabond 60’s protest folk-stumpery.
He tackles universal themes of love, loss, and longing . . . restless discontent and grateful joy. And he captures both the sorrow and the beauty inherent in our everyday lives with the wisdom of a perceptive, compassionate elder and with the innocent awe and tenderness of a child.
We first heard Danny at Folk Alliance in Austin, and were blown away at first listen. Just last month he did that again in the Kerrville New Folks competition. Come hear! |

“With a warm heart and insightful words... her uplifting perspectives have the power to 'heal,' creating images of both the negative and positive sides to the
human condition...”
- Lana Fanelli, Rolling Stone
Sara Hickman likes to write about things that pop into her head, like bowls full of stars and kerosene and faithful hearts and cantaloupe and birdhouses.
She likes to sing, too. she will whip out her guitar at parties and around campfires to get everyone singing along. She likes lots of voices singing. as she says,"it only takes one voice to start a choir."
She feels sad when she sees homeless people, and stops to see what can be done. She likes to go in hospitals and sing for kids and cancer patients, and she wishes she could breakdance really well to raise funds for the children of uganda, but since she isn't much of a dancer, she joined a blogathon instead and wrote for 24 hours straight to raise money/awareness.
Her high score in bowling is 197.
She rode in an elevator with Pete Townshend, sang a duet with George Burns, wrote flamenco guitar music for a play that starred Melissa Gilbert, and charmed Johnny Carson twice on his late night show.
She doodles, and will leave a chalk mark on your sidewalk if you're not home.
We think she's stunning, and she'll be here in our living room, accompanied by the lovely and harmonious Kristin DeWitt! |
