In this haven in the woods outside Wylie, Texas where we live and work, Tom building Teleport telescopes and Linda doing graphic design and sound recording in The Annex Studios. It is a lot of work to keep this place in shape, but sharing it with our friends is what makes it worthwhile. In particular, we like to support our friends who write songs.
If
you've ever wondered where good songs come from, we can show you. Somewhere
there's a songwriter who put his or her life down to music and sent it
out into the world. Sometimes those songs get picked up by a well-known
performer and make it to the "mainstream." Some of those folks also travel
around the country singing their songs for folks and telling stories about
their origins.
Once in a while we invite these outstanding songwriters into our home to do a "House Concert," a concert in our living room (it's a big living room.) Click to find out more about our House Concerts.
We spend as much time as we can at the Kerrville Folk Festivals (songwriters from around the world twice a year) and we volunteer at Uncle Calvin's Coffeehouse (great music every Friday night.)
The sign on the front of our house is another story - it was created by friends who were house-sitting while Tom was on a long motorcycle trip, and presented to him when he got home. Tom has travelled all 50 states and some of Canada on two wheels, and really enjoys his bike travel, when he gets the opportunity to get away for a while. His most recent trip was to Alaska and back!
