The Seven Noahide Laws
According to tradition, Noah was given seven commandments to follow.
Since, in the Biblical account, Noah's progeny repopulated the earth, Judaism
sees these commandments as being binding upon all people. On the other hand,
remember that other cultures usually have their own sense of destiny and
what constitutes a proper and improper action, and they may not see themselves
as bound by the Noahide laws. With this in mind, reread the section on Free
Will, and think about what the impact of not following these laws would
be on the community at large.
The Seven Noahide Laws
- Do not to deny G-d (e.g. idolatry)
- Do not to blaspheme G-d
- Do not to commit murder
- Do not engage in improper sexual relationships
- Do not steal
- Do not eat a limb torn from a living animal
- Establish courts of justice
