The Light of Torah
Resh Lakish says: To him who is engaged in the study of the Torah by
night, the Holy One extends a thread of grace by day, as it is said, By
day the Lord will command his lovingkindness, and in the night his song
shall be with me.
-Avodah Zarah 3b
Commentary: Regardless of how one might choose to explain it, the
study of Torah gives us that feeling of contact with the sacred, and this
contact, in turn, slowly begins to transform our lives. The Zohar
expands upon this passage by explaining that this thread of grace is the
primordial spiritual light that has been set aside for the righteous in
the world to come.
