BINAH
Binah means understanding.
It corresponds to Saturn in astrology. Whereas Chokmah is the moment of
"aha", Binah is that which clothes one's inspirations in words
and thought. It gives structure to the the original creation. Binah is referred
to as the "upper" mother because through the process of creating
our web of thoughts and their interconnections, we give birth to our particular
universe. The "lower" mother is Malchut,
the kingdom, which also gives birth to a world as "mother earth".
Both are connected with the Shechinah, the feminine
aspect of God. Binah is similar in function to Hod,
but while Hod is more concerned with the day to day processing of thought,
Binah relates to the very foundations of our mental menagerie. It is thought
at a much higher or more fundamental level.
