The person acts as the connecting link between space and time. In this verse, we find the person further subdivided into a triad. Physiologically, the head contains the fire of bioelectrical impusles, the abdomen is filled with the waters that keep us alive, and the lungs provide the oxygen that is necessary for these processes to continue. Since man is made in the image of God, this arrangement also mirrors that between sky and earth in the larger universe. Furthermore, in the Kabbalistic Tree of Life we find not only the arrangement of fire above, water below, and air in between, but also water on the right, fire on the left and air in the middle. This latter arangement mirrors the actions of the right hemisphere of the brain, the left hemisphere of the brain, and the nerves which coordinate the activities of the two.
