From the previous formulas we would have expected Shin-Mem-Aleph for the male and Shin-Aleph-Mem for the female. However, in this verse we have exactly the reverse of what we anticipated. Why? Perhaps the answer lies in modern science. Recent studies have verified that men approach problem solving with the left hemisphere of their brains while women utilize the right hemisphere in problem solving much more than men do. Hence, in the brain, which is ruled by Shin, we find a reversal of the male and female roles. Whereas on other levels it is the female which gives form, in the realm of the mind the male has a greater tendency toward the left brain functions of form and restriction, and the female has greater access to the creative gifts of the right hemisphere. Notice that this is the second reversal we have encountered, the first being the masculine role played by mother earth and the receptive, feminine role played by heaven when it comes to an initiation of will (see Chapter 3, Verse 4).
