Up is the direction of wisdom (Bet). Staring into the night sky awakens us to larger infinities. Down is the direction of wealth (Gimmel), the richness of the earth. East where the sun rises is the direction of seed (Dalet) and regeneration. West is the direction of life (Kaf) and healing. North is the direction of dominance (Peh) and restriction. South is the direction of peace (Resh) and compassion. The center is the direction of grace (Tav) and the Holy Palace that supports them all. This center can also be identified with the Shechinah (and Malchut) and with the Torah, for it is written that "The Torah bestows grace upon those who study it. -Eiruvin 54b"
