Chapter 6, Verse 4

4. "Also God made one opposite the other" (Ecclesiastes 7:14). Good opposite evil, evil opposite good. Good from good, evil from evil. Good defines evil and evil defines good. Good is kept for the good ones, and evil is kept for the evil ones.

This verse informs us that in the world of the finite nothing can exist without its opposite. All that can be perceived is less than the totality of all things, and hence, every perception has a complementary perception that defines it. The blessing and the curse exist simultaneously in the world of form, and to live we must choose life.

"I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may live. -deuteronomy 30:19"

"The first light is white, too bright for the eye to behold. It is the light which is hidden away for the righteous in the world to come, as it is written: "Light is sown for the righteous" (Psalm 97:2). -Zohar II, 78b"

"Light shall be for the righteous and gladness for the upright. 'Light for the righteous', for it is written, Light is sown for the righteous (Psalm 97:2). -Taanit 15a"
