We greatly enjoy hosting house concerts. We call our series Acoustic Concert Tours, a name created by our partner, Paul Porter. Having wonderful music performed in our living room by it's creator, and a chance to get to know the artists and the source of some of the songs is an absolute delight (we offer lodging for the night and meals for the performer.) You can find out more about how to present a house concert at Michael Cooney's Tips for Concert Presenters, and we encourage you to do so. To find out more about other house concerts across the country, see Glen Duckett's page for House Concerts, and check out the listings on Musi-Cal
We've
had a wonderful time with our concerts. In fact, we've presented over 100
shows in the 7 years or so we've been doing this. Some of them may be songwriters
you've heard of, and there are sure to be songs from them you've heard
of. You might recognize the songs of Michael
Smith ("The Dutchman" and "Dead Egyptian Blues"), Emily Kaitz ("Pico
De Gallo") and Jon Ims ("She's In Love With The Boy" and "Falling Out of
Love"). These are the songs with "words that matter," songs that address
the personal and the universal and can make you see the world differently.
We've had as many as 95 people at a concert - we have a big living room
- but the intimacy of the setting puts the artist at ease and makes for
a very fulfilling evening for all.
House Concerts are a way to get this original, acoustic, lyric-oriented music out into the world, and we need more ways to do that. We ask for a donation (usually $12-$15) to cover the artist's expenses, serve beverages and snacks (bring something to share if you like), and have a wonderful evening. After the concert we all break out our instruments and have a song circle - out around the campfire if the weather's nice. Please join us, to play and sing or just listen.
