While searching for a better test site for the liquid engines, a small 6 inch hybrid of 1850# thrust was constructed and has been tested. Call it Nemesis 1/2. This is the 6 inch hybrid on the test stand. In this photo the flame trench below the rocket is covered with a sheet of plywood while working on the rocket. The funny looking face on the left is the camera bunker, the control bunker is in the background behind the test stand.

During propellant loading and testing safety is always a prime concern. There are three factors in safely operating a rocket engine. Time, limit your exposure dangerous situations. Distance, try to stay as far away as possible. Shielding, build yourself a heavy bunker.

This is a photo of the current bunker, a concrete culvert. It was obtained FREE at a pipe plant because it had holes, which are now used for periscopes. The top around the holes is reinforced and a couple of layers of Juniper posts are added to the front. More shielding is always being adding to the front and top. Because it's round it's possible to roll it onto a trailer to move it when it's necessary to change sites. (photo by Jim Davidson)

As you can see, it's a bit crowded with three people, the control panel, and a video monitor inside, but small = strong so they pack themselves in. From the bunker you can control vehicle loading, firing, and the fire suppression pump system. (photo by Jim Davidson)
